We are an olive skinned couple, racially white. Racially we have White European ancestry (the portuguese is the most common in White Brazilians). Olive skin describes a skin color range of some indigenous individuals who are from the Mediterranean or South Europe.

Migrations from what is now Northern Iberia during the Paleolithic and Mesolithic, links modern Iberians (Portuguese and Spanish) to the populations of much of Western Europe and particularly the British Isles and Atlantic Europe. Recent books published by geneticists Bryan Sykes, Stephen Oppenheimer and Spencer Wells have argued the large Paleolithic and Mesolithic Iberian influence in the modern day Irish, Welsh and Scottish gene-pool as well as parts of the English. Indeed, Y-chromosome haplogroup R1b (of Paleolithic origin) is the most common haplogroup in practically all of the Iberian Peninsula and Western Europe.

Within the R1b haplogroup there are modal haplotypes. One of the best-characterized of these haplotypes is the Atlantic Modal Haplotype (AMH). This haplotype reaches the highest frequencies in the Iberian Peninsula and in the British Isles. In Portugal it reaches 33% generally and higher than 90% in some of the northern regions of the country.

White Brazilians make up 48.4% of Brazil's population, or around 92 million people, according to the IBGE's 2008 PNAD (National Research by Sample of Dwellings).

The Brazilian social construct of "white race" is different from the concept of "white race" in other countries.

Many White Brazilians would prefer to self-describe as "morenos" (literally, "brunette", "dark-haired" or "with an olive complexion") instead as "brancos" (only whites).

"The results of the tests of genomic ancestry are quite different from the self-made estimates of European ancestry", say the researchers. In general, the test results showed that European ancestry is far more important than the students thought it would be. The "pardos" (mixed) were found out to have a European ancestry on average of 80% (autosomal ancestry).

Practically all European coming to Brazil before 1818 were Portuguese. Available data seems to point that most Portuguese settlers in Brazil came from northern Portugal, especially from Minho.
